A day in the life of the Seeco workshop
Updated: Aug 13

If you’ve ever wondered what actually happens behind the scenes once you place an order with Seeco, you’re in the right place. Our workshop is where ideas become real, where precision meets pace and where a lot of very clever people (and some seriously impressive machinery) work together to get things done properly.
So, pop the kettle on and let’s take a walk through a typical day in the Seeco workshop.
It all starts with your order
Every job begins its journey when an order lands with our team and is loaded into our ERP system, M1. This is where the magic starts to take shape.
From here, we generate the all-important Job Traveller (JT). Think of it as the job’s passport. It contains everything the workshop needs to know and quite literally travels with the job from start to finish.
Once created, the baton is passed from sales to our Production Manager, who schedules the work based on the delivery date. From this point on, they’re in charge of making sure everything runs like clockwork.
Planning, prepping and getting ready to cut
Before anything is made, we need to make sure we’ve got the right materials in place. Our Production Manager checks stock and, if needed, raises requisitions for our buyer to source anything required.
Then comes one of the most important steps: nesting.
This is where we group jobs using the same material together to maximise efficiency on our machines. It’s a bit like a puzzle, carefully arranging parts to make the most of each sheet of material, reducing waste and keeping things cost-effective for our customers.
The first stop: laser punch
For around 95% of the work that passes through our factory, the first destination is our EML (laser punch machine).

This is where raw material starts to become something tangible. Sheets are cut with speed and precision, producing components exactly to spec.
Depending on the schedule, these jobs may run during the day or as part of an overnight run to keep everything moving efficiently.
From raw parts to workable components
Once parts are cut, they’re broken out (removed from the sheet) and deburred to ensure clean, safe edges.
At this stage, the Job Traveller is right there with them, guiding each department on exactly what needs to happen next. It’s how we keep everything consistent, traceable and running smoothly across the workshop.
Quality checks (without the drama)
Throughout the day, our Quality Manager carries out spot checks to make sure everything meets our standards.
If something’s not quite right (which, honestly, doesn’t happen often), a rework form is issued so the team can quickly correct it. It’s all about catching things early and keeping everyone aligned.
Shaping, forming and finishing
After initial prep, parts move into the folding stage, where they begin to take their final shape. From there, they may head off in a few different directions depending on the job.

This could include:
Pemserting for fasteners
Welding or spot welding for structural integrity
Fettling and polishing for a clean, professional finish
Each step is carried out by skilled members of the team who know exactly what good looks like.
Final checks and finishing touches in the Seeco workshop
Before anything leaves the workshop, it goes through a final inspection by our Quality Manager. Only when we’re completely happy does it move forward.
From here, parts will either:
Be dispatched directly as finished components, or
Be sent for subcontract treatments such as painting, plating, anodising, or silk screening
And yes, when they come back, we check them again. Because that extra layer of assurance matters.
More than just a workshop
What might look like a straightforward process is actually a carefully choreographed operation involving people, planning and precision at every stage.
It’s not just about making parts. It’s about doing things properly, communicating clearly and making sure every job that leaves our workshop reflects the standards we stand for.
And tomorrow? We’ll do it all again.
